Y2-Long-term-plan-2025-26Below is the relevant information that you will need for this term. If you have any further questions please see the class teacher.
Y2-Autumn-Parent-Partnership-Letter-2025Alongside weekly class homework, a termly homework project will be set to support classroom learning. Below is this half terms project.
Y2-Autumn-Homework-Geography-Lets-explore-the-UKSystematic synthetic daily phonics is taught following the Read Write Inc Programme throughout Early Years and Key Stage 1, beginning in the summer term of Pre-school. Pupils are grouped according to ability across the year groups. Progress is tracked throughout the year by the early reading and phonics lead and groupings are adjusted accordingly. Pupils in Year 1 have a National Phonics Screening Test in June. Pupils who do not achieve the expected standard re-sit the test the following year when they are in Y2. Fast track tutoring will be used as an intervention when required to support early reading and writing.
When pupils complete the Read Write Inc phonics programme they begin ‘No-nonsense spelling’. This programme is taught throughout Key Stage 2.
We use the Read Write Inc reading scheme throughout Early Years and Key Stage 1 where books are fully decodable and correlate with where the child is up to in the scheme. Children are also sent home two books which are matched to their reading level from Read, Write, Inc. and a book to read for pleasure with an adult, which will be from the school library..
If you have any questions or would like any further information about the curriculum or how you can further support your child’s learning at home then please speak to your child’s class teacher.
If you would like any copies of the documents on this page, the school office will be happy to print them for you.

In Y2 we are learning about how people from other communities prepare during Advent. We have learnt about the 9 day tradition of ‘Las Posadas’ which takes place in Mexico. We know that they hold a procession singing carols in candlelight for 9 days ending on Christmas Eve in the church. At St. Jude’s we try to recreate this by sending home our own ‘travelling cribs’ to families during Advent.

Today, Y2 were lucky enough to have one of our parishinors visit our classroom and share his family Bible. He shared the history of how his Bible was first given to his dad when he left school and is still now passed down through family members. The children explored the Testaments and listened to Ray read the story of Noah. What an inspiring afternoon for Y2!

What a wonderful half term we have had at St Jude’s! It has been a joy to share all of the hard work the children have accomplished over the last 8 weeks.
Here are this week’s achievers. Keep up the great work everyone and we look forward to celebrating everyone’s success next half term ⭐️
Today, to mark the end of our Branch – Creation and Covenant – Y2 worshipped and prayed with Y1 to share how we praise God for all that he has given us and how he is always there for us. Y2 read their own prayers which they had written and invited Y1 to place a heart at the foot of Jesus when they had thought of a way they could show their praise and thanks to God.

This morning, Y2 children invited their families to celebrate the Word of God in our Spiritual Garden and thank God for the wonderful world He has created. We reflected on the message of Laudato Si where Pope Francis told us to live wisely, think deeply and love generously and each child shared their pledge with their families and gave them a flower to remind them of all God created.

🧠 💛 World Mental Health Day 2025 💛 🧠 On Friday, our School Council spoke to the whole school about World Mental Health Day and why we were wearing yellow – to show support and raise awareness for mental health. They also launched a Kindness Challenge, encouraging everyone to be extra kind to others throughout the week. It was a lovely reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference

Congratulations to all of our achievers! We love celebrating all of the hard work that has taken place throughout the week.

Today Y2 made bird feeders using recycled materials and hung them in our Spiritual Garden. We had spent time looking at Laudato Si, the letter which Pope Francis wrote asking everyone to look after God’s world, and thought about how we could be ‘good stewards’. Some children even made a bird feeder and home and brought it into school. We can’t wait to see the birds come and enjoy their food!

Meet our new school council for 2025 – 2026. Congratulations to all the children selected. Our first meeting will be held next week ⭐️

As we mark Diversity month, Year 2 spent some time reflecting on how God made us in his image and likeness and we are all unique. Each child wrote a word which represents them and laid it at the foot of the cross to remind us that Jesus loves everyone.

Our Prayer and Liturgy this week reminded us that God will provide us with everything we need so we don’t need to worry. If we do have worries, like the bubbles, they will eventually disappear.

What is a computer? We learned that a computer uses electricity and needs an input to produce an output. We worked out if an object was a computer or not.
